One million words

November 7, 2010

A few months ago, I mentioned the rule of thumb that says writers have to write one million words of “garbage” before they are skilled enough to produce something worth reading.

Well, I’m happy to report that I got that first million English words out of my system 🙂

I mentioned it to my best friend, and last weekend, she surprised me with a wonderful present.

She bought me a quill and a dip pen, and her father, who is a real craftsman when it comes to wood, made a box for it. The box even has my pen name in brass letters on it.

How cool is that?

I hope every writer has someone in her life who is as supportive when it comes to her writing.

I’m working on my second million words now, and I added a progress meter page to my blog. If you want to check it out, there’s a link in the right-hand menu.

  1. Wow… that is neat!
    So, do you use it?

    • I do. The wooden box has a place of honor on top of my desk, and I bought three different kinds of inks (I think I mentioned that I have a slight office-supply fetish *g*). Now I’m ready to give autographs 🙂

  2. […] with emergencies. I’m going to do this kind of throw-away stuff because it is part of my million words and I need to learn how to really rock […]

  3. Wow so great achievement.. I’m working on it even though English is not my first language
